The Phantom of the Opera was written by the novelist Gaston Leroux who was born in Paris in 1868. His book was published in 1911 and he lived to see the first film version released in 1925, two years before he died. The story has since inspired many theatre and film producers, as well as composers, and has made The Phantom of the Opera one of the most enduring and fascinating legends around the world. |
